I organized a surprise birthday party for my "21 Days" band leader. Since he is our illustrious keyboard player as well....I had to personally make his 40th birthday cake:
It was chocolate with chocolate with more chocolate. Everybody's favorite. We all had such a great time! Although I'm anxiously awaiting the repercussions of my actions from Ty...he specifically didn't want the praise team to do anything for his birthday - WHOOPS! I guess I didn't hear about that mandate until it was already too late!
I really have to share this. I guess this could just be considered a reflection. A few weeks ago, our Sunday school teacher (who is also our guitarist and sometimes bass player) was teaching us from the last chapter in James. I had been thinking a lot about my dear grandfather who recently passed on Good Friday and what Ken shared with us during Sunday school was really kind of cool.
James 5:13-16 says, "Anyone who is having troubles should pray. Anyone who is happy should sing praises. Anyone who is sick should call the church's elders. They should pray for and pour oil on the person in the name of the Lord. And the prayer that is said with faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will heal that person. And if the person has sinned, the sins will be forgiven. Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so God can heal you. When a believing person prays, great things happen."
So, when my grandfather got sick, there were many people praying for his healing - his restoration. In my job, there are also many parents who pray for their children to be healed. The Bible, according to this verse, says that God will heal. But here's the thought - what can we define as healing? God healed my grandfather in the best, most awesome way He could've - He took Pop-Pop to heaven. Pop-Pop was saved by his faith and acceptance in Jesus Christ....the ultimate healing was done. He isn't in pain any more - he doesn't even need his cane or his glasses or his precious false teeth!!!! It may not have been the result that the rest of us wanted - but that lucky old sea-dog got there before the rest of us. How truly awesome is that?
(Thanks Ken for teaching Sunday school...I've been learning a lot through it).
